Chozas de Paja

Totally Thathed Houses built of straw, wood poles, bamboo and string (chozas de paja) were typical to this region in the eighteenth century. We have kept the traditional structure but refashioned with more windows to let in the light and an interior in keeping with modern living.

The Choza Grande was designed with a gathering of friends or family in mind. It has a spacious living-dining room with a natural Ecological limestone floor, antique sideboards and a large dining table. Beneath the mezzanine is a sofa, and a steep staircase leading up to the wooden sleeping platform beneath the eaves. Off the dining area you’ll find a rustic kitchen and off that an unusual, blue bathroom. Multiple windows in this Choza mean that sunlight streams through it all day long.
Set among a private natural garden with it´s table in the shade of an ancient olive wild tree, this is our most secluded property. Although beautifully cool in the summer, some people need the electric heater in the winter. Regardless, many people return time and again to enjoy this unique and magical place to stay.

Important not to let food out of the fridge, fruit, nuts etc.. to avoid countryside animals.. and ants. There are guecos that co habit the chozas, and they are great at catching mosquitoes.
